Safety notes
- One swimmer at the turning wall at a time.
What it develops
- Turns with streamlined push-offs and underwater phase
- Turns suited to each stroke
How to run it
- Place a floating toy a few metres from the wall.
- Swimmers approach, turn (their choice for the stroke) and push off.
- Points: 1 for a legal-style turn, 1 for a held streamline, 1 for reaching the toy before the first stroke.
- Rotate through; beat your own score.
Teaching cues
- Clean turn.
- Tight streamline.
- Reach the target.
Make it easier
- Target closer.
- Open turn only.
Make it harder
- Target further.
- Stroke-specific turns in medley order.
Common faults
- Rushing and skipping the streamline.
- Swimmers crowding the wall.
Corrections
- Only score clean turns.
- Stagger swimmers so the wall is clear.
Assistant / L1 role
- Judge one of the three points consistently for every swimmer.
