Safety notes
- Deep water: swimmers stay within reach of the wall or a helper, with a noodle or float ready.
- One swimmer at a time through the deep-water parts.
What it develops
- Surface dives and object recovery
- Tread water and scull efficiently for longer
- Combine aquatic skills in a sequence
How to run it
- Enter safely (appropriate to depth).
- Swim a short distance on any stroke.
- Surface dive to touch the floor or recover an object.
- Scull on the back, tread water for 20 seconds, then swim to the side and exit.
Teaching cues
- One skill at a time.
- Calm and controlled.
- Finish strong – safe exit.
Make it easier
- Remove the surface dive.
- Noodle at the tread station.
Make it harder
- Add a feet-first and a head-first surface dive.
- Complete the sequence in a T-shirt.
Common faults
- Rushing and losing control.
- Skipping the rest periods.
Corrections
- Write the sequence on a card at the side.
- Teach each part first.
Assistant / L1 role
- Follow one swimmer along the side and prompt the next skill.
