Safety notes
- Lane organisation – swimmers doing different sets need clear lanes and circle swimming.
What it develops
- Swim continuously with controlled pace
- Keep technique and stroke count as distance increases
How to run it
- Give a simple template: easy swim, one drill, a main swim with a technique focus, easy swim.
- Swimmers choose distances and rests using the pace clock.
- Swim their set while the teacher checks technique.
- Reflect: was it too easy, too hard, just right?
Teaching cues
- Warm up first.
- Pick a focus.
- Use the clock to rest.
Make it easier
- Teacher gives two choices for each part.
- Shorter set.
Make it harder
- Include two strokes and a turn focus.
- Plan a set for a partner.
Common faults
- Planning something far too hard.
- Skipping the easy parts.
Corrections
- Keep total distance realistic.
- Remind them technique first.
Assistant / L1 role
- Check plans before swimmers start and read the pace clock for them.
