Cannot recover from float to standing
Panics or rolls when trying to get the feet back onto the floor from a float.
Activities that help
- Clap and Stand – Swimmers glide on the front and must recover to standing the moment they hear a clap – quick, safe recovery from a glide.
- Jellyfish Float – A tucked mushroom float that lets swimmers feel the water lifting them up.
- Musical Floats – Swimmers move around freely; when the music or whistle stops they make the float shape the teacher calls.
- Sharks in the Shallows – A chase game where the only safe place is floating like a starfish – swimmers must float quickly to avoid the shark.
- Sit in the Chair – Teaches safe recovery from a back float: chin forward, knees up, 'sit' and stand.
- Starfish Wake-Up – Swimmers float as starfish and 'wake up' to standing on the teacher's call – practises floating and recovery together.
- Tuck and Stand – Recovery from a front float: knees to chest, press the water down, feet down, stand.
