Safe Entry – swimming activities

Getting into the water in a controlled, safe way.

Activities

  • Backwards Down the Steps – Teaches swimmers to use the pool steps facing the rail – the safest way in for nervous beginners.
  • Entry Menu – Swimmers choose the right entry for the depth – step, slide, jump, crouch fall – and explain their choice.
  • Fall In, Float, Shout – A calm rehearsal of what to do after an unexpected fall in: get back to the surface, hold on or float, and call for help.
  • Jump and Turn – Swimmers jump in, turn straight back to face the wall and swim to it – the essential safety habit after any entry.
  • Obstacle Course – A course that links several skills in a row – enter, travel, go through a hoop, collect a sinker, float and exit.
  • Pool Edge Circuit – A mini circuit of getting out, walking safely and getting back in, repeated so safe exits and entries become automatic.
  • Silent Entry Challenge – Swimmers get in on their own using a controlled swivel entry, aiming to make as little splash as possible.
  • Sit, Swivel and Slide – A calm, controlled seated entry from the pool edge that builds the habit of getting in safely.
  • Sitting Dive – The first head-first entry: from sitting on the edge, arms over the head, swimmers overbalance forward into a shallow glide.
  • Supported Jump-In – A step-by-step progression to a first jump-in, with a helper in the water, for swimmers ready to go beyond a seated entry.
